Set up your shift pattern.
Get it right once.
Shift templates describe individual duties. A rotation combines duties and rest days into a repeating pattern.

Prepare shift templates
Open Shifts and create the templates you need, such as an early shift and a late shift. Add a name, start and finish times, a colour, and the available working-time and pay settings.
Create a rotation
- Open Rotations and create a new plan.
- Give it a name and choose its start date.
- Add working blocks with the appropriate template, then add rest blocks.
- Set the number of days in each block and arrange them in the right order.
- Choose the number of repetitions or a fixed date range, then check the preview.
New and edited plans can cover no more than five calendar years.
Example: two early shifts, two late shifts, two rest days
Create a two-day working block using your early-shift template, followed by a two-day block using your late-shift template and then a two-day rest block. Choose a start date that matches your real pattern. Before saving, check that the preview agrees with your rota.
Handle exceptions and overlaps
If you change one shift generated by a rotation, the change applies only to that occurrence. The rotation itself remains in place. If it conflicts with another rotation, choose whether to replace the existing entries or keep both plans.
The preview shows no more than eight weeks of the pattern. It is not a complete list of every calendar entry that will be created later.
